Material and Methods: 45 patients, positives for HCV who underwent partial or total hepatectomies were selected from Hospital São Paulo from January 2005 to December 2014. Expression of HDAC3 and HDAC4 was assessed by immunohistochemistry and evaluated by a semiquantitative score, considering intensity and proportion of positive nuclei in HCC, HGDN and CN. The immunoreactivity was then compared among the groups and the association with morfological, clnical and laboratorial parameters was assessed. Results: There was difference in the expression of HDAC3 among the groups and it was associated with the presence of vascular invasion. Besides, there was no difference in the expression of HDAC4 among the groups. However, it was associated with higher blood levels of AFP and with the patient’s age at the time of diagnosis of HCC. There was no dfference between the immunoreactivity of HDAC3 and HDAC4 in HGDN and CN in the patients who had HCC when compared to the patients who did not have HCC. Conclusion: The difference of the immunoreactivity of HDAC3 among the three groups sugests that this epigenetic alteration plays a role in hepatocarcinogenesis. The association between de immunoreactivity of HDAC3 and vascular invasion sugests that this lesions are more capable of spreading. The association between de immunoreactivity of HDAC4 and blood levels of AFP sugests this lesions are less differenciated.
