    O conflito como forma de fortalecimento do poder episcopal no século IV: Uma análise dos escritos de Ambrósio de Milão

    This work aims to analyze and discuss the work of Ambrose of Milan, Book 10, the last collection of compilations organized by Ambrose in life. In order to point the strengthening of Episcopal power, taking as example the important bishop of Milan, Ambrose. From the analysis of letters, prayers and sermons written by Ambrose underline the conflict as the basis of this self-affirmation of the Nicene bishop present. This monograph established the conflicts that Ambrose fought against the Arians, as opposed to main stream Nicene, and against the pagans, who gradually lost their privileges before the emperor. After an attempt to establish an analysis on the pillars of episcopal power based on the work of historian Claudia Rapp, analyzed in each chapter attempts to Ambrose affirmation of the triad of authority which according to Rapp configure an exemplary Bishop. Authorities being: spiritual, ascetic and pragmatic.
