- ItemRestritoAvaliação do impacto da blefaroplastia superior na qualidade de vida utilizando questionário padronizado (Qblefaro): estudo piloto(Soc Brasileira Dermatologia, 2008-01-01) Paixao, Mauricio Pedreira; Miot, Helio Amante; Santos Machado Filho, Carlos D' Aparecida [UNIFESP]; Universidade de São Paulo (USP); Fac Med ABC; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)BACKGROUND: There is scarce literature on assessing surgical results and the impact of upper blepharoplasty on quality of life of patients.OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact on quality of life of patients submitted to upper blepharoplasty.METHODS: A prospective study using a standardized questionnaire applied to adult women submitted to upper blepharoplasty and evaluated 90 days later to estimate the surgical impact on quality of life and complications.RESULTS: Forty-one healthy adult females (median age of 53 years) were evaluated from June 2005 to March 2006. the questionnaire showed high internal consistency. the quality of life element with greater impact on the first postoperative week was related to physical appearance perception and that of lesser impact was associated to relationship with relatives and close friends. Hypertrophic scar was the main late complication. Satisfaction levels with the surgery were significantly related with absence of undesirable effects (p<0.01).CONCLUSIONS: the authors suggest a consistent tool to evaluate the impact of this surgical procedure on quality of life of patients. High satisfaction levels with upper blepharoplasty stood out. Keywords: Blepharoplasty; Quality of life; Patient satisfaction

METHODS: A prospective study was peformed on 29 patients with dermatochalasis who were studied before and three months after blepharoplasty. Changes in ocular symptoms, physical examination and in objective tests, like Schirmer's test, tear film break-up time and rose Bengal coloration were evaluated. RESULTS: No statistically significant alteration in results of objective tests, except Schirmer II test, was found between the pre- and postoperative period. Regarding eyelid anatomy, alterations in palpebral fissure and excursion of the upper eyelid were observed that were statistically significant postoperatively. CONCLUSIONS: It is possible to state that the palpebral fissure alterations happen frequently in patients submitted to esthetic blepharoplasty. It was also possible to conclude, by this study, that the objective tests for dry eye evaluation, did not show significant alterations postoperatively, except for Schirmer II test.

- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Resultados clínicos e satisfação dos pacientes após blefaroplastia inferior(Colégio Brasileiro de Cirurgiões, 2011-10-01) Viana, Giovanni André Pires [UNIFESP]; Osaki, Midori Hentona [UNIFESP]; Nishi, Mauro [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the results of fifty patients undergoing transcutaneous lower eyelid blepharoplasty. METHODS: We conducted a prospective, randomised, controlled trial between April 2005 and May 2007. Patients were randomly divided into two groups: Group 1 consisted of 25 surgical patients undergoing traditional lower blepharoplasty and routine lateral canthopexy; Group 2 consisted of 25 patients undergoing lower blepharoplasty with fat bags transposition and routine lateral canthopexy. We used the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale UNIFESP / EPM to assess patients' self-esteem. We also requested the participation of three independent surgeons, who examined the pre and postoperative photographs and quantified the results with the aid of a topographic scale. RESULTS: The mean age was 48.8 years, predominantly females (96%). The analysis of photographs showed a 96% significant improvement. Self-esteem scores improved from a preoperative average of 5.1 (SD = 4.1) to a mean of 3.6 (SD = 3.5) six months after the operation (p = 0.001). CONCLUSION: Both procedures are safe and effective with low complication rates, causing improvement of self-esteem assessed six months after the operation.

There are few cases reported in the literature, and we could only identify one description of trichoadenoma occurring in the eyelid area. We describe the case of a patient with trichoadenoma in the outer corner of the lower eyelid that we treated with surgical excision associated with blepharoplasty.
