Through fieldwork, methodologies called PAR (Protocol for Rapid Assessment of Rivers) and PARU (Protocol for Rapid Assessment of Urban Rivers) were applied. It was found that each stream has its own particularities, such as: degree of occupation along its banks, depth of the bed, amount of garbage, changes to the bed and floodplains, vulnerability to floods, history of social participation, green and protected areas , such as Permanent Preservation Areas (APP), Urban Parks and Conservation Units. With the application of PAR/PARU it was possible to develop a new perspective regarding water courses. The methodology, practical and didactic, allowed a clear vision of the requirements for a stream to be considered environmentally healthy and its application proved to be a great tool for education and environmental awareness. Comparing the two methodologies, PAR allowed a more technical look with physical specifications on rivers, and PARU is more adapted to the reality of urban rivers, which already have some human intervention. Both demonstrate that the environmental quality of a watercourse is fully linked to the quality of its banks and floodplain vegetation. The connection between all the watercourses studied is due to the meeting of the Cambará stream and the Tremembé on the Cabuçu de Cima River; The Água Vermelha stream flows directly into the Tietê River, meeting the Cabuçu de Cima further ahead. The Tietê River, although not the direct object of this study, is the hydrographic basin that receives the waters of the three streams analyzed, marking the urban geography of the entire region, being known nationally for its pollution and for crossing the state of São Paulo from east to east. west, along its 1,100 kilometers in length. The Tietê River flows into the Paraná River, which flows into the Prata River, where all these waters meet the Atlantic Ocean, in the border region between Argentina and Uruguay, and it can be inferred that no matter how small a watercourse it is, it is connected to an entire ecosystem at a continental and consequently global level.
