    Percursos do branqueamento : família Prado e imigração em São Paulo

    This research deals with the whitening of the population as a comprehensive phenomenon, related with the historic process of racialization, working however with its own terms. Looking at the historic backgrounds, this work is limited by the context of Brazil and of São Paulo state, going through the paths of the white advance, from sertanismo to coffee expansion. Following the trajectory of the Prado Family, we see that the 19th century elite looks for a political project, especially in the moments of the final crisis of the slavery, when searches a way out by the heights. Thus, the immigrants come in large scale, with public money, in a state policy started by the Martinico Prado's company. The non-white workers's substitution by European ones comply with the interests of the coffee elites, saving the farming and strengthening the whitening intrinsic to the colonial project.
