- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Ataxia espinocerebelar: análise perceptivo-auditiva e acústica da fala em três casos(Pró-Fono Produtos Especializados para Fonoaudiologia Ltda., 2009-06-01) Barreto, Simone dos Santos [UNIFESP]; Mantovani-Nagaoka, Joana [UNIFESP]; Martins, Fernanda Chapchap [UNIFESP]; Ortiz, Karin Zazo [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); Rede Sarah Hospitais de ReabilitaçãoBACKGROUND: dysarthrias are commonly found in patients with spinocerebellar ataxias (SCA). AIM: to characterize perceptual and acoustic features of speech in three patients with spinocerebellar ataxia and to verify the presence of similar features among these patients. METHOD: speech samples of two males with SCA3 and one male with SCA2 were obtained. Both perceptual and acoustic analyses were done. RESULTS: It was observed strain-strangled and breathiness phonation, vocal instability, increased noise-to-harmonics ratio and low alternate motion rate (AMR) and speech rate in all three patients. Deviated resonance and s/z ratio were also observed. CONCLUSION: phonatory disorders and altered temporal patterns of speech seem to be typical in dysarthric patients with spinocerebellar ataxia.

- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Disartria na doença de Wilson: análise de dois casos em fases distintas(CEFAC Saúde e Educação, 2010-06-01) Brabo, Natália Casagrande [UNIFESP]; Cera, Maysa Luchesi [UNIFESP]; Barreto, Simone Dos Santos [UNIFESP]; Ortiz, Karin Zazo [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); Prefeitura do Rio de JaneiroBACKGROUND: dysarthria in Wilson's disease. PROCEDURES: case study of two patients with disease's diagnosis, both young female adults, with six years of schooling. Perceptual analysis was done by four speech therapists. The following parameters were assessed: voice quality, loudness, pitch, vocal attack, vocal stability and resonance, as well as the degree of deviated parameters, measured by a visual analogue scale. In addition, the intelligibility was analysed by an orthographic transcription method. Praat 4.4.13 software was used for acoustic analysis. Fundamental frequency, phonatory stability, noise and temporal measures were equally assessed. RESULTS: both patients have a speech characterized by: maximum phonation time reduced, breathiness and strained harsh voice quality, voice stoppages, transient breathiness, increased shimmer and noise-to-harmonics ratio, hypernasality. Oral diadochokinesia, speech rate and intelligibility of speech were reduced. The results suggested that the patient who showed Wilson's disease for longer time showed more acute impairments in most of the analyzed perceptual and acoustic parameters. CONCLUSION: both cases showed similar caracteristics. These features seem to be typical in dysarthric patients with Wilson's disease. However, differences were also observed, and can be related to the disease's evolution.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Taxa de elocução de fala segundo a gravidade da gagueira(Pró-Fono Produtos Especializados para Fonoaudiologia Ltda., 2009-03-01) Arcuri, Cláudia Fassin [UNIFESP]; Osborn, Ellen [UNIFESP]; Schiefer, Ana Maria [UNIFESP]; Chiari, Brasilia Maria [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)BACKGROUND: speech duration has been the subject of acoustic studies due to its relationship with rhythm and speech rate. The speech analysis of stutterers has revealed data which often differs from that found in non-stutterers. These differences most likely stem from timing disturbances related to speech motor control. OBJECTIVE: to compare the speech rates of individuals presenting different stuttering severity levels. METHOD: participants were 6 adult stutterers with the following severity levels: 2 with mild stuttering; 2 with moderate stuttering and 2 with severe stuttering. The words cavalo (horse), pipoca (popcorn) and tapete (carpet) were introduced in a carrier phrase, Digo......baixinho (Say ......in a low voice). Each phrase was uttered by the researcher and then repeated aloud 3 times by the participants while being recorded in a computer. Utterances containing speech disruptions were discarded. Subsequently, timing measurements were made, using the Praat 4.2 software. Utterances were divided into segments delimited by two consecutive voice onsets, and speech rate was then calculated (number of vowel-vowel segments divided by the total sum of duration of the segments). The data were analyzed statistically using ANOVA. RESULTS: the group with mild/moderate stuttering presented higher and similar speech rates, differing statistically from the group with severe stuttering, therefore indicating that the higher the severity of stuttering, the lower the speech rate. This difference seems to be related to difficulties in motor programming, affecting mainly the rhythm and the timing of discourse. CONCLUSIONS: the rate of fluent speech during a repetition task differentiated the studied individuals according to the severity of stuttering.
