With the idea of contrasts as a guiding principle, the work aims to bring the dualism present in the construction of the story between the narrator character and the protagonist to the two poles that constitute the representation theory in Schopenhauer: the principle of sufficient reason and the Idea. In the itinerary that we established, we start with the formal reading of the narrative, highlighting structural aspects of the composition based on Julio Cortázar's own conceptual apparatus. From there we engender the philosophical analysis of the characters bringing the narrator, Bruno, closer to the sphere of the principle of reason in Schopenhauer. The research reaches its main scope by bringing the reading of the character Johnny Carter from the characterization of the genius given in the metaphysics of the beautiful. The objective is to think the protagonist's psychological complexion according to Schopenhauerian theorizing of genius. Our work culminates in the appreciation of music as the final point of contact between the two projects, observing the status of musicality in Schopenhauer's hierarchy of arts and in the fictional movement carried out by Cortázar in the text of O Perseguidor.
