Method1,810 children, randomly selected and regularly registered in the 1st grade of Elementary Public Schools have been submitted to a speech sound disorder screening test (TERDAF). Data related to age and history of grade retention of the children elected to this study were collected in the school records after being authorized by children’s parents. Association between SSD and grade retention were calculated by prevalence ratio and its 95% confidence interval.Resultchildren with SSD had more chances to grade retention when compared to those without this (PR 1.3; 95%CI: 1.1 – 1.5). The prevalence of SSD in this sample was 25%, taking into account the values of sensitivity and specificity of the screening test used. It was also verified that children with SSD have 1.3 times the risk to present history of grade retention, when compared to children without such disorders.Conclusionthe prevalence of SSD when the phonological acquisition must have been established denotes that such cluster is more prevalent than what literature is used to pointing out once few population epidemiologic studies concerning human communication are carried through.

[UNIFESP]OBJECTIVE: To analyze if characteristics of managers, schools, and curriculum are associated with the implementation of programs for drug abuse prevention in elementary and high schools. METHODS: Cross-sectional study, with random sample of 263 school managers. Data were collected between 2012 and 2013 by a program that sends forms via internet. A closed self-filling questionnaire was applied online. Statistical analysis included Chi-square tests and logistic regression models. The outcome variable was the presence of program for drug abuse prevention inserted in the daily life and educational program of the school. The explanatory variables were divided into: demographic data of the manager characteristics of the school and of the curriculum health education and drug use in the school. RESULTS: We found that 42.5% (95% CI 36.1-49.1) of the evaluated schools had programs for drug abuse prevention. With the multiple logistic regression model, we observed that the more time the manager has worked with education, the chance of the school having a program increased at about 4.0%. Experimenting with innovative teaching techniques also increased at about six times the chance of the school developing a program for drug abuse prevention. The difficulties in the implementation of the programs were more present in state and municipal schools, when compared with private schools, due to, for instance: lack of teaching materials, lack of money, and competing demands for teaching other subjects. CONCLUSIONS: The implementation of programs for drug abuse prevention in the city of Sao Paulo is associated with the experience of the manager in education and with the teaching strategies of the school.

Considering the relations between a public school on the outskirts of São Paulo and the Primary Care service of Sistema Único de Saúde,this research sought to understand the possible ramifications of this interaction under a critical point of view.Methodology: Case study of qualitative approach. Field research and interviewswere made with professionals involved in the production of scholar complaint linked to the school, to the UnidadeBásica de Saúde, and to the Diretoria Regional de Educação. Results and discussion: There are different web arrangements being developed between the Primary Attention services and schools that are crossed by the school complaint and the public politics of health care and the different web configurations of health care affect the scholar complaint. Some interactions, which do not depend on public programs, can be its enabler. Considering the history and culture of institutions, the abilities and the availability of the subjects involved, and the search for the routine on its professionals actions is very important. Looking at the territory may seem an important progress, but one must be alert to easy answers that justify school complaint by the situations of vulnerability. Final thoughts: Respecting the space and knowledge of others, searching for a common ground, recognizing failures (and avoiding them), and showing yourself available seem to be key elements to set significant intersectorial actions. Family Health presents a powerful instrument to act on this perspective and to reach the relations being producedall the time on the field of interactions of the scholar complaint.
