- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)O (a) trabalhador (a) terceirizado (a) em uma universidade pública: percepções sobre organização do trabalho e educação em saúde(Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), 2020-05-11) Silva, Ada Priscila da [UNIFESP]; Queiróz, Maria de Fátima Ferreira [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São PauloLabor relations have become increasingly fragile due to the outsourcing policies adopted in Brazil since the 1990s and enhanced over the recent years. As to Federal Public Universities, there is a constant reduction of funds for their operation, which has created an environment of insecurity in outsourced workers. This research aims to understand the work of the outsourced at Unifesp- Campus Baixada Santista regarding work conditions, processes, organization and work relationships and the influences on the worker’s health. It aims to identify the needs of these workers in health education and verify their expectations about the studies developed within the University where they work. The research has a qualitative focus and is formed by non-exhaustive observation of each outsourced service on the Campus, combined with the Discourse of the Collective Subject, carried out through semi-structured individual interviews with the workers. The study points out that the health of outsourced employees is negatively affected by the precariousness resulting from the outsourcing policies and the constant decline of financial resources given to Public Universities. The research revealed that the downsizing of outsourced personnel and the fear of unemployment worry workers and are causes of health compromise according to studies in the area. In addition, bad structural conditions and work organization were also found. Eventually, the research showed that outsourced workers are unfamiliar with what is developed at the University. Based on the obtained results, we propose meetings with different groups of the campus in order to promote the exchange of knowledge about work and health, as well as to bring these groups together.
- ItemSomente MetadadadosAnálise da percepção do ambiente de prática profissional dos enfermeiros que atuam em um hospital acreditado(Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), 2021) Danno, Camila Hidemi [UNIFESP]; Bohomol, Elena [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São PauloObjective: Evaluate the professional practice environment of nurses working in a hospital. Methods: type survey study, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, carried out in two stages, in a hospital in the state of São Paulo. The population consisted of 84 nurses in the first stage and 98 in the second stage, all nurses were invited to participate in the study, and the sample was selected for convenience. For data collection, an instrument consisting of two parts was applied, the first for professional characterization with 12 questions and the second comprised the Practice Environment Scale - PES Brazilian version, composed of 24 items distributed in five subscales. The first collect occurred between March and May 2019, was characterized as Group 1, and the second collect occurred in September 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, as Group 2. Data were analyzed by software R studio version 1.2 5001 and the level of significance adopted was p≤ 0.05. The instrument's internal consistency was assessed by Cronbach's alpha. Results: 55 (65.5%) nurses in Group 1 participated in the study, 83.6% of whom were women, 58.2% were married and 47.3% were between 30 and 39 years old; and 53 (54.1%) nurses in Group 2, where 83% were women, 54.7% married and 50.9% aged 30 to 39 years. Cronbach's alpha for the general instrument was 0.93 and 0.92, respectively, for the subscales it varied between 0.71 and 0.84 in Group 1 and between 0.77 and 0.87 in Group 2. The general mean practice of Environment Scale - PES Brazilian version was favorable, with averages of 3.1 and 3.3, respectively, with a significant difference (p = 0.04). All subscales showed favorable results, with emphasis on the subscale 1 “Participation of nurses in the discussion of hospital issues” with an average of 3.2 and 3.4 (p = 0.05), subscale 4 “Adequacy of the team and of resources” with an average of 2.8 and 3 (p = 0.04) and the subscale 5 “Positive work relationships between doctors and nurses” with an average of 3.1 and 3.3 (p = 0.04). There was no significant difference in subscale 2 "Nursing fundamentals focused on quality of care" with 3.2 and 3.4 (p = 0.27) and subscale 3 "Skill, leadership and support of nursing coordinators / supervisors to nurses / nursing staff” with 3.3 and 3.4 (p = 0.07). Conclusion: The professional practice environment of nurses was considered as favorable by both groups, with favorable rating in the five subscales. There was a better favorability of the environment during the pandemic. Even presenting a linearity in the assessments before and during the pandemic. The findings of this study show the importance of assessing the work environment for institutional adjustments in order to favor the development of nursing practice.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Effects of sexism in the workplace on mental health: a systematic review(Universidade Federal de São Paulo, 2020-12-19) Simionato, Natalia Maria; Suchecki, Deborah [UNIFESP]; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0735654567907174; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3605976555153471; Universidade Federal de São Paulo - UNIFESPObjective: To identify the effects of sexism in the workplace (in the forms of sexual harassment, payment inequality, career progression obstacles and sex discrimination) on workers’ mental health through a systematic review of the scientific literature. Method: A search strategy with Boolean Operators, MeSH terms and keywords related to working women, sexual and workplace harassment, gender pay gap, career mobility and depressive symptoms or disorders was applied in five databases (PubMed, PsycInfo, Web Of Science, LILACS and CINAHL), from which 1613 articles were analysed by title and abstract, 314 read in full by two reviewers and 105 matched the inclusion criteria. Data of interest from 58 articles were not available for extraction, thus these were excluded. Comorbidities (e.g., anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, sleep problems) were only included if the study also assessed depression. The final sample consisted of 47 articles, which had their methodology assessed though the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Results: The most commonly studied subject was sexual harassment. Several work areas and different country populations are represented in these articles, being the Unites States of America the most common affiliation source of authors. All studies were published by, or in collaboration with Universities in developed countries. Few studies considered gender according to self-report and the intersection between sex and race, highlighting the need for more studies about sexism in the workplace being conducted around the world, especially in underdeveloped and developing countries, which are currently underrepresented. Data extracted from 47 articles suggest that women are more exposed to sexual harassment and assault in the workplace, have lower salaries, face more gender-related barriers to job promotions and are more exposed to sex discrimination at work. These exposures seem to increase the risk for depression and comorbidities regardless of sex, although women are, in general, more exposed and more affected by these disorders. Conclusion: Women are, in general, more exposed to all sexism-related events at work. Exposure to sexual harassment or assault in the workplace, gender wage gap, difficulties in job promotions or career progression and sex discrimination at work seem to promote mental health disorders such as depression and comorbidities in both sexes. Some results suggest that men might be more vulnerable to develop psychological disorders after being sexually harassed or assaulted in the workplace, however, women are more exposed and more affected by the disorders evaluated in this review.
- ItemSomente MetadadadosWorkplace staff canteen is associated with lower blood pressure among industry workers(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2018) Vinholes, Daniele B.; Machado, Carlos Alberto [UNIFESP]; Chaves, Hilton; Rossato, Sinara L.; Melo, Ione M. F.; Fuchs, Flavio D.; Fuchs, Sandra C.Purpose A staff canteen in the workplace can offer a healthier diet, which may lower the blood pressure (BP). The purpose of this paper is to evaluate whether the presence of staff canteen in the workplace is associated with consumption of healthy food and lower systolic and diastolic BP. Design/methodology/approach A cross-sectional study was conducted, randomly selecting workers through a multistage sampling, stratified by company size in Brazil. Demographic, socioeconomic, and life style characteristics were evaluated, and weight, height, and BP were measured. Statistical analysis used generalized linear models, controlling for design effect and confounding factors, to assess the association between BP and staff canteen and the intake of food items. Findings In total, 4.818 workers, aged 35.410.7 years, 76.5 percent men, with 8.74.1 years of formal education were enrolled. Prevalence of hypertension was 24.7 percent (p-value <0.001) among workers from industries with staff canteen vs 30.6 percent among those with no staff canteen. Workers of industries with staff canteen consumed higher proportion of fruits, green leafy vegetables, and milk than workers of industries without canteen, and had lower systolic and diastolic BP, independently of the frequency of intake. Practical implications Workers of industries with staff canteen consumed a healthier diet, and had lower systolic and diastolic BP, and lower prevalence of hypertension than workers from workplaces without staff canteen. Originality/value This study was the first carried out among workers of industries reporting that the presence of a staff canteen in the workplace is associated with lower systolic and diastolic BP and prevalence of hypertension.
