However, there is a paucity of tests reliable for this purpose, mainly for the neurophysiological study of upper motor neuron (UMN). Objective: to evaluate the ratio between the Central Motor Conduction Time (CMCT) and Central Sensory Conduction Time (CSCT) in Motor Neuron Diseases (MND). Methods: CMCT and CSCT (peak ? pCSCT and onset - oCSCT) were measured from the median and ulnar nerves bilaterally, in 21 healthy volunteers (controls) and in 18 patients with acquired MND, and the ratio (CMCT/CSCT) was calculated. UMN involvement was evaluated according to deep tendon reflexes and MND clinical type. Results: only CMCT/oCSCT ratio (oR) showed significant difference in both median nerves, when comparing controls and patients with brisk reflexes ? right median nerve (p = 0.0053) and left median nerve (p = 0.0083). Conclusions: The ratio CMCT/CSCT between onset was able to detect involvement in different types of MND. New studies with this ratio should be evaluated in relation to ALS progression in UMN.
