- ItemSomente MetadadadosA randomized clinical comparison of OPTI-FREE EXPRESS and ReNu MultiPLUS multipurpose lens care solutions(Springer, 2009-04-01) Lipener, Cesar; CLASS Grp; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)To evaluate subjective symptoms and clinical signs of tolerability and comfort in silicone and non-silicone hydrogel contact lens (CL) wearers using two different multipurpose solution (MPS) CL care regimens. This was a randomized, double-masked, contralateral, crossover, multicenter (n=9) study. One hundred and eleven subjects were enrolled in the study, and were randomly assigned either silicone hydrogel CLs or non-silicone hydrogel CLs. Before wear, the CLs were randomly conditioned for at least 10 hours in a multipurpose disinfection solution (MPDS) preserved with either: Regimen 1-polyquaternium-1 0.001% and myristamidopropyl dimethylamine 0.0005% (POLYQUADA (R) and ALDOXA (R), respectively; OPTIFREE EXPRESSA (R) MPDS, Alcon Laboratories, Inc., Fort Worth, TX, USA); or Regimen 2-multipurpose solution preserved with polyhexamethylene biguanide 0.0001% (PHMB, ReNu MultiPLUSA (R) MPS, Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, NY, USA). the study had two in-office visits, 1 week apart. Subjects wore assigned CLs for approximately 4 hours at each visit. At each visit, subjects' eyes were examined before CL insertion and at 2 hours and 4 hours after insertion. Corneal staining type and area, conjunctival staining, conjunctival injection, subjective symptoms (tolerability), and comfort were evaluated. One hundred and five subjects (210 eyes) completed the study. the total corneal staining score of area and type were statistically significantly less in Regimen 1 than in Regimen 2 (P < 0.000001). the area of conjunctival staining was statistically significantly less in Regimen 1 than in Regimen 2 (P=0.03). No clinically significant hyperemia was observed for either regimen. Both tolerability (P=0.02) and patient preference (P=0.05) were in favor of Regimen 1.Statistically significant clinical differences were evident between the two CL care regimens when used with silicone and non-silicone hydrogel CLs. OPTI-FREE EXPRESS MPDS users showed less corneal and conjunctival staining and reported greater comfort and tolerability to the CL/solution combination than ReNu MultiPLUS MPS users.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Os significados da palavra conforto segundo a perspectiva do paciente com infarto agudo do miocárdio(Escola de Enfermagem de Ribeirão Preto / Universidade de São Paulo, 1996-12-01) Mussi, Fernanda Carneiro; Friedlander, Maria Romana [UNIFESP]; Neves-arruda, Eloita; H.I.A.E. Faculdade de Enfermagem Departamento de Enfermagem Médico-Cirúrgica; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); Universidade Federal do ParanáThis investigation included 25 male adult patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction admitted in a Coronary Disease Unit located in the Municipality of São Paulo, Brazil. It aimed at identifying the meaning those patients give to the word comfort. Data collection was carried using a specific form and manually processed; answers to open questions were treated using the BARDIN'S² content analysis method and the results were basically analyzed in absolute numbers and percentages and organized in tables and figures. Comfort was expressed by several ways, from material and financial conditions, enjoyment of personal interactions, sense of physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being to normal functioning which means recovery expectations, disease-freedom and capacity to perform usual activities. Material and financial conditions (29,4%) and personal interactions (21,6%) were emphasized. In addition to the conclusions directly related to the objective, the results showed that: (a) viewing the multidimensional aspects related to comfort, it should not be exclusively considered as dependent of nursing care; (b) various indicators identified suggested that the same meaning for comfort was expressed or described in most varied ways.
- ItemSomente MetadadadosThe Study of Attenuation Levels and the Comfort of Earplugs(Medknow Publications & Media Pvt Ltd, 2018) Samelli, Alessandra G.; Gomes, Raquel F.; Chammas, Tiago V.; Silva, Barbara G.; Moreira, Renata R.; Fiorini, Ana Claudia [UNIFESP]Introduction: This study aimed to analyze and compare four different types of earplugs, divided into premolded plugs and foam plug models, in relation to the level of attenuation, comfort, and the size of the external acoustic meatus (EAM) in an attempt to identify how these variables influence the choice of specific hearing protection devices (HPDs). Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was performed in a sample of 49 participants, oriented toward the ideal placement of four HPDs, two premolded and two foam plugs (3M (TM)). The procedures included otoscopy, EAM diameter measurement using an otometer, EAM volume measurement via an acoustic impedance test, and the obtainment of the bilateral personal attenuation rating (PAR) for each HPD using the E-A-Rfit (TM) Validation System (3M (TM)). The Bipolar Comfort Rating Scale (BCRS) instrument was applied twice for each individual: once after the evaluations with the premolded HPDs and again after the evaluations with the foam plug HPDs. Then, each participant was asked which was his/her favorite protector. Results: The volume of the EAM was not directly related to the diameter of the EAM. The attenuation did not interfere with the HPD preference, and the PAR of the foam plug was significantly higher regardless of the preferred HPD. Regarding the BCRS, the variables "Placement," "Complexity," and "Occlusion Effect" had higher scores for premolded HPDs and had a direct relationship with the type of preferred HPD. Conclusion: Attention to the use of HPDs should be personalized, taking into account the needs of each individual, considering not only the attenuation, but also the user's reported well-being.
