- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Duração do sono em adolescentes de diferentes níveis socioeconômicos(Instituto de Psiquiatria da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, 2009-01-01) Bernardo, Maria Perpeto Socorro Leite [UNIFESP]; Pereira, Érico Felden; Louzada, Fernando Mazzilli; D'Almeida, Vânia [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); Universidade Federal do ParanáOBJECTIVE: To investigate the sleep duration in adolescents of different socioeconomic status. METHOD: We investigated 863 adolescents from 10 to 19 years in two schools in São Paulo, SP, Brazil. Sleep habits data and socioeconomic status were obtained by questionnaires. RESULTS: Mean sleep duration on days of the week was 8.83(1.87) hours and the prevalence of adolescents with eight or fewer hours/day was 39.0% on school days (p = 0.043). On adjusted analysis, age, socioeconomic status and taking a nap habit were the main factors associated with few hours of sleep. Older students (aged 18 to 19 years) showed higher prevalence of few hours of sleep when compared to younger students (10 to 11 years) (RP = 4.78; IC95%: 1.98-11.53), as well as for upper class adolescents when compared to those with lower socioeconomic status. CONCLUSION: Results showed the association between socioeconomic status and adolescents' sleep/wake habits.
- ItemSomente MetadadadosThe effectiveness of a physical activity and nutrition education program in the prevention of overweight in schoolchildren in Criciuma, Brazil(Nature Publishing Group, 2013-11-01) Silva, L. S. M. da; Fisberg, M. [UNIFESP]; Souza Pires, M. M. de; Nassar, S. M.; Sottovia, C. B.; Univ Extremo Catarinense; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC); Cooper InstBACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: the objectives of this study were to evaluate nutritional status, aptitude and physical activity at the beginning and end of the nutrition education and physical activity intervention program as compared with a control group.METHODS: We conducted a 28-week quasi-experimental study involving 238 students (108 in the intervention group (IG) and 130 in the control group (CG)). the IG participated in curricular and extracurricular activities for nutrition education (50 min once a week) and physical activity (50 min twice a week), and the CG participated only in curricular activities. Nutritional status was determined using body mass index, according to the WHO 2007 curve. the effect of the intervention program was evaluated using a model of generalized estimating equations.RESULTS: Among overweight students, a greater reduction in percentile of BMI was observed in the IG (64.6%) compared with CG (36.4%), P=0.001. Improvement in nutritional status occurred in 26.2% of IG versus 10.4% of CG (P=0.014). the IG showed a significant increase in the amount of moderate or vigorous physical activity (P=0.012), whereas in the control group the increase was not significant (P=0.810). in three physical fitness tests, the IG showed significant improvements in performance (P<0.001), whereas the control group's performance was worse in the final evaluation.CONCLUSIONS: the intervention program had a positive effect on overweight, with significant improvements in nutritional status and physical fitness.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Intake of protein, calcium and sodium in public child day care centers(Sociedade de Pediatria de São Paulo, 2014-06-01) Longo-Silva, Giovana [UNIFESP]; Toloni, Maysa Helena de Aguiar [UNIFESP]; Menezes, Risia Cristina E. de; Temteo, Tatiane Leocádio; Oliveira, Maria Alice A.; Asakura, Leiko; Costa, Emília Chagas; Taddei, Jose Augusto de Aguiar Carrazedo [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de Alagoas Faculdade de Nutrição; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); Universidade Federal de PernambucoOBJECTIVE: To assess calcium, protein and sodium intake, of children that attend public day-care centers and to compare it with the recommended one.METHODS: Cross-sectional descriptive study in seven public day care centers of São Paulo city, Southeast Brazil, which enrolled 366 children between 12 and 36 months of age. The data collection occurred between September and December 2010. Each day care center was evaluated for three non-consecutive days, totaling 42 days and 210 meals. Dietary intake was assessed by a direct food weighing method. For the nutritional calculation, DietWin(r) Profissional 2.0 was used, and the adequacy was calculated according to the recommendations of the National School Feeding Program for energy, protein, calcium and sodium. The calcium/protein relation was also calculated, as well as calcium density (mg/1,000kcal).RESULTS:The energy (406.4kcal), protein (18.2g) and calcium (207.6mg) consumption did not reach the recommended values in all the evaluated day care centers. Sodium intake exceeded up to three times the recommendation. The calcium/protein ratio of 11.7mg/g was less than the adequate one (20mg/g).CONCLUSIONS:There was inadequacy of calcium, protein and sodium dietary intake, in children attending public day-care centers.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Low Prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection evaluated by stool antigen test in preschool and school children(Sociedade Brasileira de Microbiologia, 2008-12-01) Miranda, Áurea Cristina Portorreal [UNIFESP]; Machado, Rodrigo Strehl [UNIFESP]; Vigliar, Renata [UNIFESP]; Kawakami, Elisabete [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)The study evaluated the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection in toddlers using the stool antigen test. Helicobacter pylori was detected in 28/113 (13.1%). Crowding and age were risk factors significantly associated to the infection. We conclude there is a low prevalence of the infection in the studied children.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)A saúde no núcleo de Educação Infantil Paulistinha da Universidade Federal de São Paulo: uma análise documental(Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), 2016-10-31) Paz, Adriana Oliveira [UNIFESP]; Gerab, Irani Ferreira da Silva [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)This research had as its main objective the analysis of health concepts and practices in the pedagogical project of the Early Childhood Education Center Paulistinha of the Universidade Federal de São Paulo (University of São Paulo) taking into account the official guidelines for education. The theoretical basis in which this research is based embraces the concepts of health, school children?s health and health education. Qualitative methods were used in this research and through the documental research nine official documents were analyzed, among those the Federal Education Guideline Law (Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação Nacional), the Brazilian Federal Constitution, the Curricular Parameters and Guideline for Early Childhood Education (Parâmetros e Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais para a Educação Infantil) and the Quality Indicator for Early Childhood Education. Two school documents were also analyzed: the school academic plan and the school statute. The data collected underwent a thematic content analysis. This research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the University of São Paulo. In the official documents were observed as a central theme the ?right to health?, from which the following dimensions were highlighted: promotion of health; global development; relation between care and education; safety and protection as health factors. In the documents from the Early Childhood Education Center Paulistinha it was possible to observe that besides the emphasis on the health context in which the Center is situated there is also the comprehension of the full development of children as a person as an institutional goal. As a result of this research a technical report that highlights improvements on school children?s health was produced in order to contribute in the production of the new pedagogical project of NEI-Paulistinha, process though which the school is in at the moment.
