The goal of this paper is to explore the decolonial thought by presenting an analysis of how this critical perspective can be applied in the Brazilian context. To this end, the present study was based on the research question, "How could Tasha and Tracie's music contribute to the current debate on colonialism?", and the following hypotheses: a) Through an artistic language, the artists bring the decolonial thought to society, and b) They contribute to the understanding of the history of the topic. Methodologically, the research of qualitative nature and in the bibliographic documentary modality was supported by previous literature on decolonialism and by music and texts written by Tasha and Tracie - two Black women from an impoverished neighborhood in northern São Paulo city - exploring how their artistic production address and interconnect crucial topics, such as the genocide of Black populations, the dispute/conquest of gold during the colonial period, and Black feminism. It is important to note that by using decolonial thinking as an analytical strategy, we examine how the musical and textual productions of the rappers reveal and criticize the continuity of colonialism in Brazilian contemporary society, highlighting the relevance of Black populations and of hip-hop culture in resisting this exploratory, violent structure.
