Six steps included: (1) translation; (2) back-translation; (3) technique revision and semantic evaluation; (4) conduct validation by professional experts (judges); (5) assessment of comprehensibility by the target population, using a verbal rating scale; and (6) evaluation of the internal consistency using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The 43 questions were translated and adapted to the Portuguese language. The final version consisted of 39 items, with content validity for three constructs (media, family, and friends), clarity and easy understanding, and good internal agreement (Cronbach's alpha coefficients > 0.80). The instrument was successfully translated and adapted to Portuguese and showed good content validity, verbal comprehensibility, and internal consistency. Further analysis of external validity, equivalence of measurement, and reproducibility are necessary.

- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Disordered eating among Brazilian female college students(Escola Nacional de Saúde Pública Sergio Arouca, Fundação Oswaldo Cruz, 2013-05-01) Alvarenga, Marle dos Santos; Lourenço, Bárbara Hatzlhoffer; Philippi, Sonia Tucunduva; Scagliusi, Fernanda Baeza [UNIFESP]; Universidade de São Paulo (USP); Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)This study aimed to investigate the socioeconomic and nutritional factors associated with disordered eating among Brazilian female college students (n = 2,489). Prevalence ratios of risk factors were calculated using Poisson regression models with robust variance based on responses to selected questions from the Eating Attitude Test and Disordered Eating Attitude Scale. It was found that 40.7% of students were dieting, 35.6% were using diet or compensatory methods, 23.9% skipping meals, 12.6% not eating or just drinking liquids, and 3.3%, vomiting to lose weight. A positive association was found between not eating or just drinking liquids and skipping meals and nutritional status after adjustment for age and region. A positive association was found between compensatory methods and dieting and education level of the head of the family. Disordered eating behaviors were frequent, and not eating and skipping meals were more prevalent among overweight/obese students; compensatory methods and dieting were less prevalent among students from families whose head had up to only four years of education. Prevention strategies and food education are necessary in order to decrease the prevalence of these behaviors.
- ItemSomente MetadadadosAn empirical evaluation of the translation to brazilian por of the loss of control over eating scale (loces)(Univ sao paulo, inst psiquiatria, 2016) da Luz, Felipe Q.; Sainsbury, Amanda; Estella, Nara M. [UNIFESP]; Cogo, Hugo [UNIFESP]; Touyz, Stephen W. [UNIFESP]; Palavras, Marly A.; Latner, Janet D.; Claudino, Angelica [UNIFESP]; Hay, PhillipaBackground: Loss of control over eating is a key feature of the most prevalent eating disorders. The Loss of Control over Eating Scale (LOCES) enables a thorough assessment of loss of control over eating. Objective: This study empirically evaluated the translation of the LOCES from eng to Brazilian por. Methods: The scale was translated to Brazilian por and back translated to eng in order to check accuracy of the translation. Two hundred and ninety-three medicine and nursing students, 60 males and 233 females, 18-55 years old, with mean body mass index (BMI) 23.2 kg/m(2) (SD 4.1), recruited between August and December 2014, answered the Brazilian por LOCES. An exploratory factor analysis was performed. Results: Exploratory factor analysis of the Brazilian por LOCES showed three distinct factors of the loss of control over eating (disgust/negative sensations, cognitive experiences/dissociation, and "positive" effects) as well as moderate consistency with previous reports of exploratory factor analysis of the eng version. Discussion: This study showed satisfactory translation of the LOCES from eng to Brazilian por, which is now ready for further validation.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Qualidade de vida e transtornos alimentares: uma revisão sistemática(Escola Nacional de Saúde Pública Sergio Arouca, Fundação Oswaldo Cruz, 2010-03-01) Tirico, Patricia Passarelli [UNIFESP]; Stefano, Sérgio Carlos [UNIFESP]; Blay, Sergio Luis [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)This article provides a systematic review of articles on quality of life (QoL) among individuals with eating disorders. A literature search was conducted using six databases. Manual searches were also performed in two specialized journals, covering the period from January 1975 to June 2008. The search strategies identified a total of 29,537 articles. Forty-one studies met the inclusion criteria, and 36 were analyzed in the present review. Patients with eating disorders showed reduced QoL as compared to normal controls and individuals with other psychiatric disorders. The mental health component of QoL showed greater impairment than the physical component. Patients with binge eating disorders showed reduced physical and psychological QoL. We identified few studies on QoL in bulimia nervosa-only patients. QoL assessment of anorexia nervosa patients showed a modest impact on the physical domain. However, this finding should be interpreted with caution, since it may be due to an artifact in the disorder's psychopathology rather than better health status per se.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Revisão sistemática da literatura sobre estudos que avaliam qualidade de vida em pessoas com transtornos alimentares(Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), 2009-02-27) Tirico, Patricia Passarelli [UNIFESP]; Blay, Sergio Luis [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)Purpose: To conduct a systematic review evaluating eating disorders (ED) quality of life studies. Methods: Bibliographic searches were made on six eletronic databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, LILACS, PSYCINFO, Cochrane Depression, Anxiety and Neurosis Group Database Trials, e Cochrane Library), and manual searches were performed on two journals (The International Journal of Eating Disorders, and Quality of Life Research: An International Journal of Quality of Life Aspects of Treatment, Care and Rehabilitation), concerning to the period of january/1975 to june/2008. All eating disorders quality of life studies assessed through validated measures, generic or specific to ED, were included in this review. Studies with clinical samples and systematic reviews were evaluated and classified based on “NHMRC additional levels of evidence and grades for recommendations STAGE 2 CONSULTATION” criteria. Studies with populational samples were evaluated based on Evidenced-Based Mental Health (EBMH) prevalence guideline. Qualitative studies were evaluated based on Evidence-Based Medicine Working Group criteria for qualitative research, and studies validating specific quality of life measures for ED patients were evaluated based on Scientific Advisory Committee of the Medical Outcomes Trust criteria. Results: A total of 29.537 articles were identified. Most of them were excluded by title and 2.758 abstracts were read more carefully. Next, 173 articles were analyzed, providing the inclusion of 41 articles in this review. Discussion: Overall, the studies demonstrate impairment on eating disorders patients quality of life. The evaluation of binge eating disorder (BED) subjects revealed concordance between the results. Little evidence and discussion were observed to bulimia nervosa (BN) subjects, and the evaluation of anorexia nervosa (AN) subjects request caution. Most studies used a generic instrument to evaluate quality of life in this population and four specific eating disorders quality of life instrument were developed, being at validation phase. Conclusion: In spite of a growing interest on the theme and increasing number of research on eating disorders quality of life, the results of this review denote a preponderance of crosssectional studies, small samples sizes, populational studies with no control of confounding variables and few studies about validation of specific eating disorders quality of life instruments, which limits the generalization of the findings. Therefore, researches considering these aspects are necessary to allow a better drawing of the problem and its evaluation.
Métodos: Foram realizadas buscas nas bases eletrônicas de dados: MEDLlNE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, LlLACS, "The Cochrane Collaboration Controlled Trials Register" e "The Cochrane Depression, Anxiety and Neurosis Group Database of Trials", e uma busca manual no "International Journal of Eating Disorders" abrangendo o período de Janeiro/94 a Maio/2006.
