Methods: The study was approved by the institution's ethics committee under number 2.179.302. The study was accomplished at NIAPEA at UNIFESP University Hospital. The study included 10 elderly people divided into two groups: Experimental Group with five elderly people: three men and two women aged between 64 and 79 years old (mean of 71 years old) and Control Group with five elderly people: two men and three women aged 62 and 77 years (average of 72,8 years). They were submitted to anamnesis, cognitive screening CASI-S and the ABEP Criterion of economic classification. The study protocol consisted of the following assessments: basic audiological, limitations in activities of daily living (COSI), temporal resolution GIN, screening for depressive symptoms (EDG-15), quality of life questionnaire (SF-36), direct and reverse Digit Span, and IOI-HA self-assessment questionnaire. Participants underwent hearing rehabilitation through the adaptation of hearing aids and those from GE also to musical auditory training. They were evaluated in three moments: before the adaptation of the hearing aids through COSI, GIN, SF- 36 and EDG-15 (first evaluation); the second was held 11 weeks after fitting the hearing aids using the GIN and IPRF tests and the GE performed the Music Training for seven weeks before the second assessment. The third assessment was applied four months after the second assessment and included COSI, GIN, Digit span, SF36, EDG-15 and QI-AASI. Results: The comparative analysis in relation to age, education, CASI-S, Digit Span and Criteria Brazil did not reveal any significant difference between the groups. The analysis of the results of the GIN test threshold showed that the CG and the EG presented better performance in the evaluations after audiological intervention. The EG presented better results in the three IPRF evaluation moments, being this significant difference in the second evaluation. In the percentage of the GIN test, the values were similar in both groups and in the three evaluations. Comparison of the results of each group in the EDG-15 and SF-36 before and after six months of effective use of hearing aids revealed no statistically significant difference between the evaluations for both groups. The analysis of the correlation between the IOI-HA through pairs of variables with COSI, SF-36, EDG-15, GIN and IPRF in the evaluations after audiological intervention, demonstrated that there was a statistically significant and positive (directly proportional) correlation between the pairs of IOI-HA and SF-36 variables in the domain of functional capacity for the EG and in the domains of general health status and limitation due to emotional aspects for the CG. There was also a statistically significant and negative (inversely proportional) correlation between the pairs of IOI-HA and SF-36 variables in the general health domain for the EG. Conclusion: The effective use of hearing aids, associated or not with musical training, promoted an improvement in temporal resolution - threshold of the GIN test with audiological intervention. The group that performed the auditory training showed an improvement in the IPRF throughout the survey. There was no improvement in the quality of life, depressive symptoms, cognitive aspects and activities of daily living of the elderly who composed the two groups.
