Among its possible complications, there are the thromboembolic events, although uncommon, they are potentially serious. Objective: To evaluate the risk of bleeding and bruising in the postoperative in patients undergoing classic abdominoplasty using low molecular weight heparin (LMWH). Methods: The sample consisted of 28 patients who undergoing classic abdominoplasty divided into two groups: LMWH group (15 patients receiving low molecular weight heparin with a dose of 40 mg per daily for 07 days postoperative) and a control group (13 patients who received mechanic prophylaxis for thromboembolic events). Patients were monitored on daily output drain basis for 07 days, subject to preoperative hematocrit and hemoglobin control, on the 1st, 2nd and 7th postoperative days. Additionally, it was performed an abdominal ultrasound on the 7th PO. Results: In the 1o PO or LMWH group showed a lower drainage output than the controlled group, no statistical difference in the remaining days evaluated. The decrease in hemoglobin and hematocrit was greater in the 1o PO day; there was no statistically significant difference in the total decrease (preoperative compared with 7o PO). There was no hematoma formation in any of the cases studied. Conclusion: There was no risk increase of bleeding and hematoma formation with the use of LMWH in prophylactic doses in the studied cases.
