Purpose: To evaluate the postural control by means of Tetrax Interactive Balance System posturography (Tetrax TM) in vertiginous patients with unilateral vestibular hypofunction. Method: 25 vertiginous patients with unilateral vestibular hypofunction and a homogeneous control group of 32 healthy individuals were submitted to a neurootologic evaluation including the Tetrax TM (Sunlight Medical Ltd.) in eight different sensory conditions and the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI). Results: For different positions, vertiginous patients with unilateral vestibular hypofunction showed significantly higher values of general stability index, weight distribution index, right/left and tool/heel synchronizations, Fourier transformation index and fall index than controls. In the group of vertiginous patients with unilateral vestibular hypofunction, DHI showed significant and positive linear correlations with fall index and general stability index in all sensory conditions; and with Fourier transformation index and synchronizations index, in some conditions. Conclusion: Increased values in the indices of weight distribution, right/left and tool/heel synchronizations, Fourier transformation and fall characterize the impairment of postural control using Tetrax TM in vertiginous patients with unilateral vestibular hypofunction.
