This is a qualitative study whose purpose was to understand the meaning attributed by the family members who accompany the patient during hospitalizationregarding the care provided by nursing team in a private hospital. The study was based on the theoretical framework of Symbolic Interaction. There were 25 participants who accompany the patient during hospitalizationin a general hospital. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed according to the Thematic Content Analysis technique. This allowed the identification of the conceptual category "Immeasurable care of nursing professionals: the interaction with thefamily members who accompany the patient during hospitalization process". Data analysis allowed the development of four thematic categories: The relation between the quality of care and the qualification of the nursing team work; Feeling the need for reference in the patient?s care; Being welcomed by the nursing staff and Experiencing the patient?s and the family?s needs. The words that the family members who accompany the patient during hospitalization assigned as symbols in the care provided by nursing professionals were: receptivity, attention, link, trust and safety. The family members saw the nursing staff as a well-trained professional category, who have domain in their actions in a standardized way and with good interaction among them. They valued knowledge about diseases, orientations provided and the invitation to the family to participate in the patient care, symbolizing the competence, partnership and qualification of the nursing professionals. However, family members needed that the patient have the same professional take care of them during hospitalization and they also said that at ICU these difficulty need to bereviewed. The nurse is seen as a leadership of the team, but not as a reference for care. It points up to the importance of the inclusion of the theme in the reflection of humanized care practice in health institutions. The patient care is still considered invisible to nursing itself and, above all, to hospital managers because these actions shown in the study are mostly silent and incommensurable
