- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Nurses' leadership styles in the icu: association with personal and professional profile and workload(Escola de Enfermagem de Ribeirão Preto / Universidade de São Paulo, 2009-02-01) Balsanelli, Alexandre Pazetto [UNIFESP]; Cunha, Isabel Cristina Kowal Olm [UNIFESP]; Whitaker, Iveth Yamaguchi [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)This study aims to explore the association between nurses' leadership styles and personal and professional nursing profile and workload. The sample consisted of seven nurses and seven nursing technicians who were grouped into pairs. At the end of three months, nurses were queried regarding what leadership style would be adopted when the nursing technician under their evaluation delivered care to patients admitted to the ICU. Relevant data was analyzed by applying descriptive statistics, Tukey's multiple comparison test and Student's t-test (p< 0.05). Nursing workload reached 80.1% on average. The personal and professional profile variables did not show any relation with the leadership styles chosen by nurses (p>0.05). The determine, persuade, and share leadership styles prevailed. However, whenever the nursing workload peaked, the determine and persuade styles were used (p<0.05).
- ItemSomente MetadadadosTransformações no ensino da liderança em enfermagem segundo docentes de escolas paulistas - 1972 a 1994(Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), 2014) Neves, Vanessa Ribeiro [UNIFESP]; Sanna, Maria Cristina Sanna [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)Historic study with the purpose of describing and analyzing the transformations that occurred in the teaching of leadership in Nursing in undergraduate studies under the point of view of the teaching nurses who carried out researches about this theme and taught this subject in the period between 1972 and 1994, at schools of the State of São Paulo. In order to do that, the Thematic Oral History method was utilized. The population was composed of four nurses who worked as professors of the subject Administration Applied to Nursing at four different schools and published studies on leadership in Nursing. In compliance with the ethical procedures, the data gathering was done by means of semi-structured interviews, with the guiding question being “How did [name of the interviewee] teach leadership to undergraduate students of Nursing from 1972 to 1994?" The testimonials were recorded, transcribed, transcreated and submitted to content analysis, according to the model proposed by Minayo. Concepts developed by Pierre Bourdieu were utilized to subsidize the reflection and analysis of the findings. Four thematic categories were built.: “The leadership”, which presented the versions and interpretations of the interviewees about the context in which the students developed that competence, the influence of previous experiences in the education of the leader and the attributes which characterize such leader; “The lading nurse”, which approached the importance of leadership for the nurse, the perception of the students who completed the undergraduate course of Nursing regarding the value of the teaching of leadership, the possibilities of emancipation derived from the work of the leading nurse, the effects of the teaching of leadership in the professional life of the graduates and the relationships established between the education of the student and the labor market.; “The actors of the teaching-learning process”, which discussed the aspects of the education and teaching update and the characteristics of the students; and “The teaching of leadership”, which described how the subject of Administration Applied to Nursing was included in the course syllabus, the main references utilized for the teaching of leadership, the content taught on this theme, the changes, facts and events that influenced the teaching of leadership, the theoretical and practical teaching of this content and the articulation between both of them, the strategies utilized for the theoretical and practical teaching of leadership and the evaluation methods utilized. It was concluded that the teaching of leadership occurred during the practice of students, by modelling of behavior facilitated by the professor and derived from the work of the nurse, seen as role model. The students then reproduced that model in order to acquire the habitus of the nurse and progress in a symbolic manner, which depended on the learning and exercise of leadership; however, the professor did not teach the students about how they would become leaders, they just offered clues so that they could find that pathway.
